Compared to last Spring’s outlandish software sales figures (fueled by the release of Super Smash Bros. Brawl and GTA IV), this year’s stats aren’t inspiring much confidence in gaming industry investors. In fact, many are anxiously awaiting the launch of new hardware to provide a quick sales boost — but according to industry analyst Michael Pachter, they shouldn’t hold their breath: By his estimation, new hardware won’t be hitting store shelves until at least 2013.
Pachter said that publishers would be hesitant to adopt new hardware considering their investments in the current console cycle have yet to adequately pay off. There’s one exception — Pachter expects the oft-rumored high-definition Wii may appear some time in 2010.
Analyst: Next console cycle isn’t coming until 2013 originally appeared on Joystiq on Sat, 02 May 2009 19:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

“A lot of our elementary school children have Nintendo [DS]. Why can’t our companies develop products like that?” These were the words of South Korean president Lee Myung-bak during his visit to the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. Lee wants to bolster the Korean game industry to rival the success of Nintendo, but local game companies agree that stagnant software support in Korea won’t see that happening anytime soon.
It’s for that very same reason that GamePark Holdings’ GP2X (a Korean-made handheld system which relies on homebrew) isn’t exactly flying off the shelves. Without any sort of big-name software like Mario or Zelda included, Mr. Lee’s dream won’t come true. This is a sentiment shared by Korean developers in every sector - from mobile gaming to internet-based and PC software. If the Korean government could find a way of supporting the software industry better, helping out developers like Pentavision and NCsoft, then maybe Korea might get the ball rolling.

Nintendo might well be
cracking the whip on the Wii production line, but pretty much everybody still seems to be feeling the pinch of shortages. UK shoppers, for example, are becoming increasingly desperate for the console, with online retailers now getting in the region of 100,000 requests a day from panicky, possibly
hyperventilating Brits.
Meanwhile, Amazon's UK arm recently sold 1,000 machines in under 10 minutes, while the console on its own is typically going for around £300 ($615) on eBay. In other words, Wii fever is hitting some quite ridiculous heights on this side of the pond, and if Reggie is to be believed, things
ain't going to get any better in the immediate future.

NPD has announced that they will offer hardware/console sales numbers for good.
This comes on the heels of a firestorm that headed their way last week when the industry-tracking group NPD stated that they would no longer provide hardware sales figures to the masses, they would only be available to subscribers of their service.
But after the big outcry from gamers and fanboys alike (who love to trump out sales numbers of their favorite system) NPD has now changed their tune and has stated that, with the console makers approval, they will now permanently add hardware sales figures to their monthly updated data.
“In retrospect, I guess I took certain things for granted and was surprised at the response,” said NPD representative David Riley.
Initially hardware sales were not tracked, and the NPD only started supplying them in November 2006, when the PS3 and Wii joined the Xbox 360 on retail shelves. But it wasn’t supposed to be permanent. “We began bending the rules because of the incredible media demand but the intent was never to provide these on a regular basis,” Riley said.
It’s definitely good to know that the NPD will continue to provide the media with sales numbers. I really do think it’s an important part of this industry and it’s good to get sales figures from an independent source that’s not the console maker, who like to spin numbers to their advantage. Just let the numbers speak for themselves.

A Melbourne PhD Student named John Papandriopoulos has developed a breakthrough technology that will enable us to surf the internet at blazing fast speeds upto 250 Mbps through our existing telephone/broadband copper wires and that too without investing in optic fibres and other expensive hardware. The new technology is totally software based that your ISP needs to install at their exchange/control room and nothing needs to be done at your side.
How this technology works:
The technology which is completely software based uses the mathematical modelling to remove the interference which slows down the downloading speeds and thus breaking the barrier of data that can be transfered without much disturbance and coping with our need for speed.
John Papandriopoulos took a year to complete this wonderful research and this development has also won him a Chancellor’s Prize for Excellence in the PhD.
This is indeed a good news for the Indian broadband industry as this could really transform the Indian broadband scenario but then it takes time from development and becoming available to general public. John has filed patent applications in US and Australia for this technology and it is said to take 3-4 years before it becomes widely available.
Now think of present Indian broadband speeds..Pathetic

Hitachi has claimed a breakthrough in Hard disk drive technology that would result in HDD’s for storage space upto whooping 4 Terabytes for desktops and 1 Terabytes for laptops. The breakthrough is based on new invention in nanotechnology that would shrink the size of the read/write heads to only 30-50nm in size.
The new heads are based on magnetoresistive techonology known as CPP-GMR (current perpendicular-to-the-plane giant magnetoresistive). The whole idea lies behind in increasing the hard disk recording densities by using smaller and smaller heads which will in turn provide huge increase in densities upto 500 gigabytes per square inch which is approximately four times the present generation of hard drives.
There is a great competition going on in this storage technology segment we have already seen a couple of storage technologies already which you can find below.
