Too Cool for Internet Explorer

Check out The Conduit’s packaging, and the game as well

May 6th, 2009 by JC Fletcher

Sega released a bunch of cool media for The Conduit, including this new trailer, titled “Trouble in the Metro.” It’s somewhat debatable as to what causes more trouble in this game’s version of the Washington, D.C. Metro system: all the alien guys running around, or the player character discharging a bunch of weapons in there.

Sega also released images of the special edition boxes for both the UK and North America. Sega has yet to announce anything about the UK special edition, but we feel pretty confident in saying that there will be a hint book included.

VC Friday: Pop-Up Onslaught!

February 13th, 2009 by JC Fletcher

It’s a pretty cool WiiWare day on the PAL Wii Shop. Hudson decided to spring its WiiWare FPS, Onslaught, on an unsuspecting audience. Somehow, we doubt PAL gamers will mind waiting an extra month or so for Snowboard Riot and playing an online FPS in the meantime.

The other game up today is something that we personally think looks delightful: Pop-Up Pirate!, the WiiWare version of the classic toy in which players stick swords into a barrel until someone accidentally stabs the imprisoned pirate. Fun for the whole family!

  • Onslaught (1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points)
  • Pop-up Pirate! (1-4 players, 500 Wii Points)

Onslaught footage can be viewed after the break, along with a commercial for the Pop-Up Pirate toy (since we couldn’t find any video of the Wii game).

Rumor: Sega to publish The Conduit

October 29th, 2008 by Chris Greenhough

Filed under:

Even though we find it strange that High Voltage is reluctant to reveal The Conduit’s publisher, one thing is certain: we can’t stop talking about it. Maybe this was High Voltage’s cunning plan all along: refuse to reveal some incredibly minor, trivial detail about your eagerly anticipated game, and drive bloggers crazy with curiosity. If so, it totally worked with us.

Now, new evidence in this long-running saga suggests Sega will publish the game. Specifically, evidence that … no longer exists. NeoGAFfers claim to have seen an empty folder named “The Conduit” on Sega of America’s press site, only the folder has now been removed. Adding further credibility to the NeoGAF sighting is Nintendo Everything, which screencapped the site before the file was taken down. As usual, no official confirmation means this is classed as rumor for now, but Sega publishing the game seems plausible.

Rumor: Metroid Prime Trilogy?

April 27th, 2008 by JC Fletcher

Filed under:

A mysterious tipster sent a rumor in to GoNintendo that a retailer database now lists a product called Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii. GoNintendo’s RawMeatCowboy speculates that this would be “Prime 1, (2), and 3 all on the Wii … but Prime 1 and 2 with all-new Wiimote controls.”

We believe that, if this is a real product, it’s a lot more likely that it’s the three Prime games … in a new box! Or maybe even in the same boxes, but with those inside a new box! Not that that’s a bad thing — the Prime games are very high-quality (even if you hate first-person!), and quite reminiscent of the real Metroids. The first two are definitely among the best GameCube games, and any opportunity to get them in new Wii owners’ hands would be welcome.

First Crysis 2 details reveal even more focus on photorealistic visuals

November 27th, 2007 by supadupagama

Crysis for PCAs recently as last week we were talking about the confirmation of a Crysis Trilogy. This week Crytek Lead Animator & Animation Manager Steven Bender revealed the first small details on the current plans for Crysis 2.

To quote: “The second part is to resume not only the history around the Koreans and Aliens. The developer’s attention will be even more focused on graphics. There will be numerous improvements regarding textures (especially facial textures) and 3D-animations. Their ambitious aim is to push the game’s visuals to an advanced level, that could be considered near photorealistic movie quality.” — Quote via Incrysis

Anyone else wondering if the PC they need to run Crysis 2 will be invented by the time the game’s out?

Deus Ex 3 debut teaser

November 27th, 2007 by supadupagama

Deus Ex for PCEidos has reconfirmed its futuristic first person-shooter/RPG Deus Ex 3 plans. Eidos Montreal general manager, Stéphane D’Astous, has said their in-house development team has just passed proof of concept for Deus Ex 3. As a result you can see the below debut trailer. To quote: “This game was very highly rated at its release in 2000, and we have this great huge mandate to do the third one, and everybody is very excited.” The game will come out on PC, Xbox 360 & PS3.

According to D’Astous, development teams will stay small and dev cycles will be lengthier. He stressed: “We’re only working on AAA, major titles. We’re going to be developing only major AAA games, using only next-gen technology. We will want to limit our dev teams to a human-sized team of 80 people at the very highest of the peak in the production cycle. We don’t want to become a huge studio where there’s over 100 people on a title. We want a smaller, multi-discipline group that are tightly knit together. But by doing so, we will give them at least 18 to 24 months for the production cycle.”

This very brief look at the Deus Ex 3 sequel ponders why for centuries, man has struggled to understand his true nature…

Gears of War PC video review

November 22nd, 2007 by supadupagama

Gears of War for PCGears of War is a third-person tactical shooter from Epic, running on the Unreal Engine 3. Gears of War was released on Xbox 360 a year ago and has now been released on PC. The game thrusts gamers into a deep and harrowing story of humankind’s epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet.

Unlike other shooters, Gears of War is all about teamwork in a big way. All (new) game modes, game editor, levels and scenarios are designed specifically to encourage co-operative play (local or online via Games for Windows LIVE support integrated into Unreal Engine 3) whether it be with A.I. partners or human players.

The PC version has a few extras that weren’t in the Xbox 360 version. There are three new multi-player maps, and five new single-player chapters which describe events of Delta Squad escaping a giant Brumak between acts four and five. So outside of the new game modes, the single player Brumak battle extras will give you one to two hours of extra playtime. See how the port did in this Gears of War PC video review.

Haze delayed to Q1 2008, Splinter Cell Conviction delayed to late 2008

November 21st, 2007 by supadupagama

Haze only for PS3Ubisoft has announced that the Free Radical developed PS3-exclusive game Haze has been pushed back to Q1 2008, that’s between January and March next year. The game had been previously scheduled for release on December 4th in America and December 14th in Europe.

In addition, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction (Xbox 360, PC) has now been moved out of its scheduled Q1 2008 release to late 2008, so that it can “form part of a stronger lineup for fiscal 2008-2009.” These two delays were announced as part of Ubisoft’s financial results.
