The Swine Flu Fishing Rod Series

May 30th, 2009 by Kabalyero

For the past few weeks, Swine Flu has been the center of global media attention and people around the world are getting scared. What can we do about it? Well, there#8217;s really nothing anyone can do except practice proper hygiene (like washing our hands regularly, covering our mouths when coughing or sneezing, avoid public areas […]pa/pdiv class=”feedflare”

Phantom Brave pushed out to August for Japanese voices

May 30th, 2009 by Jason Dobson

Brace yourselves. The upcoming port of Phantom Brave won’t possess Wii consoles in June as expected. Now, assuming you survived that Prinny Bomb, NIS America says in its press release (PDF link) that the delay will allow the niche publisher to put the oft-requested Japanese voice-over track back into the game.

It’s a gift, however, that requires some “extra programming and debugging,” and players looking forward to the moody strategy game will now have to wait until August 4 to get their grinding fix.

Screens, video from LOTR: Aragorn’s Quest are just adorable

May 30th, 2009 by Justin McElroy

Look at him! Couldn’t you just eat the little guy up with a spoon? We’re getting our first looks at screens and video (check after the break) from family-friendly Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest, and they’re just precious. If you think Lil’ Aragorn is cute, wait until you see the kiddy-fied hobbits. They’re like squishable, baby-shaped teddy bears.

On a completely unrelated note, do you think we could crack open J.R.R. Tolkien’s coffin and use his spinning corpse to power a small generator? Just curious.

Stand at attention for this No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle trailer

May 29th, 2009 by JC Fletcher

Coming one day in advance of the announced May 30th reveal date, a new trailer for No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle has just captured the hell out of our attention. Yes, that is a random shot of a luchador as a backdrop for Suda 51’s credit – why not.

If you wanted to see more of the dual-sword moves seen in the Famitsu scans, well, here you go — this video is loaded with shots of an older-looking Travis Touchdown swinging two Beam Katanas around. It also introduces the new assassin Nathan Copeland, who starts his fight with Travis by throwing ladies at him. Even with that weirdness, the tone of this trailer is much more serious than before — though it ends in a very No More Heroes way.

If that’s not enough for you, check Famitsu for new screens!
[Thanks, Mr Khan!]

Ask Joystiq Nintendo: Demonstrative Edition

May 28th, 2009 by JC Fletcher

This week on Ask Joystiq Nintendo, we have just one question to answer as we prepare for E3. Next week, we’ll be at E3, so we’re taking a brief one-week hiatus from your questions. Hopefully E3 will answer every possible question you could come up with… right? Right?

We didn’t think the subject of this week’s question was confusing until we started to answer it, and then it got kind of confusing. If you have a question for two weeks from now, send it into asknintendo AT joystiq DOT com. On to the question of the week!

Hudson bringing Sudoku to DSiWare this summer

May 28th, 2009 by Jem Alexander

Hudson has announced that it will be bringing Sudoku to DSiWare in two different flavors. Sudoku Student and Sudoku Master will both be made available this summer at a”very affordable price point.” The games will each feature puzzles hand crafted by Nikoli, the Japanese puzzle company.

It’s unclear exactly what the differences are between the two titles, though the press release does mention that Sudoku Master features “a class certification mode, which tests advanced players’ puzzle solving abilities and rates their skill levels.” Sure, Sudoku’s getting a little bit tired nowadays, but with the puzzles coming to DSi there’s now literally no way to escape them. May as well just give in.

Rumored video of Aliens: Colonial Marines for DS surfaces

May 27th, 2009 by Jem Alexander

What’s the real deal with the Aliens franchise, recently? Ask Sega — except don’t, because you’re pretty unlikely to get a straight answer from the company regarding the whereabouts of Aliens: Colonial Marines or the Obsidian-developed Aliens RPG. This new video, which can be seen after the break, is even more mysterious. It appears to be a 2D side-scrolling Aliens game developed by WayForward — the people making A Boy and His Blob — and Gearbox, developer of the console and PC version of Colonial Marines (if it still exists, that is).

Could this be a DS version of that same title, or is this something completely separate? Is it in development, or scrapped? The video description says it’s a canceled project that was completed and shelved due to financial trouble at Sega. We’ve reached out to Sega for comment, but we’re not counting on finding out much.

This Week on the Nintendo Channel: Download the Law

May 25th, 2009 by JC Fletcher

Do you have the day off? Why not take a quick vacation down to Miami … Law. Miami Law. On the DS. There’s a demo on the Nintendo Channel, we mean. Okay, that didn’t work. We’ll start again: “Oh, hey, look, there’s a demo for Miami Law on the Nintendo Channel. Let’s all download it.”

Promisingly, the demo is labeled “Vol. 1.” We have yet to try the demo to see if it’s a good thing, but there seems to be more coming!

Hunt ghosts on your Nintendo DSi with Ghostwire

May 25th, 2009 by David Hinkle

Sweden-based development studio A Different Game has been watching too much Ghost Hunters, it would seem, as the company is preparing Ghostwire, Kotaku reports. Ghostwire is a game where you use your Nintendo DSi to hunt down ghastly ghouls in real life. We’re not joking; through use of the Nintendo DSi’s camera, microphone, and touch-screen, players will locate ghosts in real-world locales and figure out what they need to be at peace.

Ghostwire currently has no scheduled release date.

Scribblenauts gets more awesome with level creation, sharing

May 24th, 2009 by Jason Dobson

We already know that developer 5th Cell’s ambitious DS project Scribblenauts will keep us distracted with its purported ability to let us conjure up anything simply by writing its name on the screen. What we didn’t know is that the game will also let us confound others by letting us edit and share levels. Seriously, is there anything this cute little game can’t do?

In Scribblenauts, players will be able to create and share custom obstacle course-style levels with other players, as well as dictate how objects in these levels behave. We might create a whale who loves honey, or a rainbow that attracts flies. Or, as Kotaku’s Totilo puts it, things could get weird when Scribblenauts pencils in all of our free time this fall.
