Too Cool for Internet Explorer

1A Bot Cost 12,000L$ o_O

April 30th, 2008 by Kabalyero

“Oh my!”, was the reaction I gave myself when I found out how much 1A Bot cost. All the while I thought Thoys SL Bot was already expensive at 2,000L$ but now, compared to 1A Bot, it’s very cheap.
I first found out about the cost of 1A Bot from another resident who inquired about Thoys […]

Real Bowser stalks our nightmares

April 30th, 2008 by Chris Greenhough

Filed under:

Back in March, this realistic depiction of Mario made us hide beneath our beds, though that was nothing compared with the horrors of what followed.

Now, some twisted internet japester has reinvented Bowser in a similar fashion. Gone is the happy-go-lucky Bowser, the ultimately lovable, pantomime-esque villain with an addiction to kidnapping royalty. And in his place? Teeth. Scales. Leathery flesh. Claws that could rip through a plumber’s torso like a warm knife through butter. Please, won’t somebody think of the children us?

Creep apprehensively past the break for the full image.

A portable SNES we wouldn’t mind having

April 29th, 2008 by David Hinkle

Filed under:

It’s the little things in life. Like the simple design that focuses on the color scheme of the SNES above, as well as simple no-bull design of the unit overall. What we’re not sure of is how using that d-pad is. This thing looks kind of thick, you know.

But, we have to say we dig the thing. We can see ourselves enjoying a game or two of some of our old favorites on this.

Unreal Tournament meets Super Mario

April 27th, 2008 by Candace Savino

Filed under:

If any of you own either the PC or PS3 versions of Unreal Tournament 3, you might enjoy downloading this Mario-inspired map made by FrontAXL. The blocky platforms will look familar to players of the original Super Mario Bros., as well as many of the background elements. It’s not an exact replica (nor is it meant to be), but the similarities are impossible to deny. Also, the PC version of the map includes music and sounds from the beloved classic.

Check out the awesome in-game video of the stage in action after the break, along with some other screens. You can also download the stage here at the UT3 forums.

Rumor: Metroid Prime Trilogy?

April 27th, 2008 by JC Fletcher

Filed under:

A mysterious tipster sent a rumor in to GoNintendo that a retailer database now lists a product called Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii. GoNintendo’s RawMeatCowboy speculates that this would be “Prime 1, (2), and 3 all on the Wii … but Prime 1 and 2 with all-new Wiimote controls.”

We believe that, if this is a real product, it’s a lot more likely that it’s the three Prime games … in a new box! Or maybe even in the same boxes, but with those inside a new box! Not that that’s a bad thing — the Prime games are very high-quality (even if you hate first-person!), and quite reminiscent of the real Metroids. The first two are definitely among the best GameCube games, and any opportunity to get them in new Wii owners’ hands would be welcome.

May’s VC games for Japan: May include MSX games

April 26th, 2008 by JC Fletcher

Nintendo has released the planned May lineup of Virtual Console games for Japan, and while it doesn’t include any megatons (like last month most certainly did), there are at least a lot of games on the list. The first two MSX games, Eggy and Aleste, are supposed to make their fashionably late appearance, but we find it a lot easier to believe that they’ll be bumped for some Wonder Boy ports.

Other interesting games, which may actually be released, include: Front Mission Series: Gun Hazard, a shooter similar to Cybernator (in fact director Toshiro Tsuchida worked on both games) and based on the Front Mission series of strategy games; Star Parodier, the “silly” Star Soldier game; and Martial Champion, a CD-based Street Fighter clone from Konami. Hit the break for the full list!

Famicom:

  • Bubble Bobble

Super Famicom:

  • Axelay
  • Ganbare Goemon 2
  • Front Mission Series: Gun Hazard

Master System:

  • Alex Kidd in Miracle World

Mega Drive:

  • Gynoug (Wings of Wor)
  • Super Fantasy Zone

PC Engine:

  • Star Parodier (CD)
  • Fire Pro Wrestling 2nd BOUT
  • Break In
  • Martial Champion (CD)

Neo Geo:

  • Fatal Fury 2
  • Ninja Combat
  • Burning Fight

MSX:

  • Eggy
  • Aleste

Animales de la Muerte set for WiiWare

April 26th, 2008 by Candace Savino

It generally doesn’t take much more than a “zombie” descriptor to pique our interest in a game, but High Voltage Software (the folks behind The Conduit) went even further than that for Animales de la Muerte. Not only are they making a WiiWare game about the undead, which they aim to release in September, but even better (or at least, different) — it’s about zombie animals in a Mexican zoo.

High Voltage summed up the premise of this cartoonishly zany game more cleverly than we could by saying, “Now, wandering freely through the zoo, the rotting beasts are no longer content with eating visitor scraps they get tossed into their cages — instead they prefer to eat the whole visitor.”

Not only do you have to kill the zombified animals, but you also have to save the poor creatures that have not yet succumbed to the outbreak. Funnily enough, the undead animals drop pesos when you kill them, which can be used to upgrade your weapons. As for the controls, the game is essentially a point-and-shoot action title, putting the Wiimote to good use. There’s also a co-op mode where you can play with up to four people, if you’re not shut-ins like us.

We posted some goodies after the break, including a hilarious trailer, so make sure to take a look.

[Thanks, Duscrom!]

Speed Racer videos show cars chasin’ after someone

April 25th, 2008 by Candace Savino

Barring those ridiculously annoying mid-race voice-overs from your competing racers, we still like what we’re seeing from Speed Racer. Originally, we thought the roads looked too narrow to pass anyone, but it seems like you can also flip over other racers (which is pretty sweet). We’re also still insanely curious about the music. Considering the game’s F-Zero and Wipeout influences, it has a lot to live up to in terms of soundtrack.

We’ve embedded another video below that was labeled as a “Stunt Gameplay” trailer, which shows the player (in Racer X’s car?) tossing other racers of the way, among other things.
