New Servers For Perfect World And Rising Force Online Philippines

March 31st, 2008 by Kabalyero

GM Tristan of Level Up Games announced in his blog new servers for Perfect World and Rising Force Online. It seems that, while other games like Khan Online says goodbye, Perfect World and RF Online continue to grow their player base thus additional servers are needed to meet the increasing demand.

Perfect World’s new server will be launched on March 31, 2008 and it will be named Serpent while Rising Force Online’s new server will be called Calix and it will be launched 2 weeks later which is on April 14, 2008.

New Servers, Fresh Start

The real benefit of a new server is that it gives new players a competitive advantage in the game because everyone starts at level 0. You see, in games like these having a head start is a huge advantage over other players that is why when new servers are added to an online game, old and new players alike are guaranteed to make a jump for it. The competition to be the server’s strongest character starts a new.

New servers also give old players an opportunity for a fresh start. It allows them to try on new builds, create new characters and correct any past mistakes which they might have done in the old servers. It can be compared to having a Second Life or having a second chance.

For the publisher, by adding new servers they’ll be able to accomodate the increasing number of players joining or playing their games and more players playing their games means more income for them and the more money they make means more servers will come or more new games or titles will be added.

New Or Old, It’s The Same Actually

For me, new servers or old servers, they’re really just the same. Same content, same grinding, same players, same scammers, same illegal traders, same publisher, same lousy GM Team, same drama and same everything. Yeah, you’ll see many new players but you’ll also see many old players with new characters and names doing the same ugly shit all over again.

What’s really important is content and regular updates. Look at Khan Online, they had a total of 7 servers during its peak but due to the lack of updates and the publisher’s failure to protect the game’s integrity, it went from 7 servers to no server.

Enjoy It While It’s New

Anyway, new servers are always a welcome treat for many players and it’s always fun playing on a new server because you’ll have hundreds of other players that are at your level to party and level-up with. The sudden influx of new players will surely keep you busy chatting and fighting about trivial things, that is if you are into that sort of thing.

Of course, this state of nirvana can only last for a while because, sooner or later, the competitive nature of each and everyone will take over and when that happens, fun will change to chore as they level-grind their way to the top.

Note: This was written on March 30, 2008 but was only posted today due to lack of internet access.

200 Linden Dollars From Indyra Originals

March 31st, 2008 by Kabalyero

Last month I received 200 linden dollars (L$) from Indyra Originals for adding its location to my Profile Picks. This month, I went back to Indyra Originals and, again, I was paid 200 linden dollars. In fact, as long as the program is offered, I’ll be paid 200 linden dollars by Indyra Originals every month only if I keep its location added to my Profile Picks.

200 Linden Dollars

I believe that Indyra Originals‘ Profile Picks Camping is the highest paying Profile Picks Camping in all of Second Life. The others that I’ve seen like Earn2Life’s Profile Picks Camping only pays 30 linden dollars in the first 24 hours and then 30 linden dollars every month you keep it added. Indyra Originals Profile Picks Camping pays 200 linden dollars for the initial 24 hours and then 200 linden dollars every month but, again, you must keep it added to your Profile Picks. Removing it from your Profile Picks will disqualify you from the program.

200 linden dollars? Wow! That’s a lot of money, right? Unfortunately, not everyone can join Indyra Originals‘ Profile Picks Camping because in order to qualify accounts must have a transaction filed with Linden Labs or in other words accounts that have “No Payment Info On File” are disqualified and will not be able to join. This is there way of protecting themselves from residents who might abuse the program by creating a lot of alternate accounts.

This is an easy 200 linden dollars from Indyra Originals for anyone who has an account with payment info filed with Linden Labs. I would like to thank Indyra Originals for this great and very easy way of earning linden dollars.

Pachter: Shortages coming to an end later this year

March 31st, 2008 by David Hinkle

Michael Pachter is at it again. This time, of all people, he spoke with a writer for the Dallas News. Now, we’re not experts in this institution that reports real world news, but we do know that video game news tends to usually fall below their radar. But they care about the Wii because, well, everyone and their grandmother bought one.

Regardless, Pachter did, and he is saying that those of us in the U.S. need to blame it on the rain the Brits. You see, his estimation is that due to the weak U.S. dollar and high demand for the console in the UK, Nintendo has been shipping more consoles over there because they profit more from sales in that country. This has supposedly been the reason that store shelves in the U.S. still don’t have the console stocked.

His belief is that the console will be more readily available in the U.S. later on this year, when the dollar is expected to bounce back some. Based on the fact that the console released over a year ago, though, we’re not going to hold our breath.

[Thanks, Matt!]

Excitebike bracelet pops wheelies on your wrist

As much as we love ourselves some Space Invaders and Pac-Man, it’s always nice to see some other game or franchise covered on craft site Etsy. When said game happens to be one of this blogger’s fondest memories from ye olde NES days, it’s all the better! This (gender-neutral) Excitebike bracelet from Etsy user pixelparty is a snip at $15, and if yours truly hadn’t already put money aside for Mario Kart Wii, you’d better believe this would be on my wrist as I typed.

Incidentally, we previously covered some of pixelparty’s bracelets in our Valentine’s Day feature earlier this year. Check out the gallery below for more of his excellent handiwork.

Earn2Life + Your Profile Picks = Linden Dollars

March 29th, 2008 by Kabalyero

Earn2Life just added a new way for everyone to earn Linden Dollars and that is by simply adding Earn2Life’s Office to your Profile Picks. Adding locations to Profile Picks and getting paid for it is a new (well not so new) way to earn linden dollars. It is popularly known as Profile Picks Camping and it started when Linden Labs changed Second Life’s in-world search feature. You see the new search takes into consideration the number of residents that added a certain location to their Profile Picks. If you have a place in Second Life then the more people that add your place to their Profile Picks the better your placement will be in the search results. That is why many locations in Second Life are starting to join the Profile Picks Camping bandwagon. (more…)

Wii Warm Up: One-man Brawl

March 28th, 2008 by JC Fletcher

The single-player game in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is pretty enjoyable. The Subspace Embassy is a decent side-scrolling brawler, and there’s a ton to do offline outside of that. You can pass hours building stages, breaking targets, launching coins, clearing events, and taking on the Multi-Man Brawl. There are characters, trophies, stickers, and songs to collect. But the truth is that Brawl is really about competition. It’s about fighting with other people, just like every other fighting game.

But what if you’re, say, not competitive? Or you’re, uh, not good at the game? If you don’t have a lot of time to play, there’s not too much chance of success online, in Game Night or any other setting. Do you think it’s possible to have a satisfactory experience with a multiplayer-oriented game like Brawl without taking part in too much multiplayer? Is it possible to enjoy a fighting game without being competitive?

Two useless accessories become one

March 27th, 2008 by JC Fletcher

CYBER Gadget has made significant technological strides in the field of unnecessary Wii accessories, combining two of the least helpful accessories in one package. The CYBER Smash Grip combines a Wiimote controller grip thing with a D-pad thumbstick cover, and adds (as a bonus!) a thing that makes the A button stick out more for some reason.

If we were going to get some kind of controller for, uh, Smashing, we’re pretty sure we’d go ahead and spend the extra for a Classic Controller instead of dropping 1,280 yen ($12.75) for this thing. Not that this thing is being marketed with Brawl in mind or anything. “Smash Grip” is just a catchy name, right?

Wiimote ‘extreme’ LED mod is dazzling

March 26th, 2008 by Candace Savino

When we hear the word “extreme” in the title of anything, we usually assume we’ll hate it. (Note: This rule of thumb is especially important when the “ex” syllable is replaced by the letter “x”.) We were therefore surprised to see how utterly freaking awesome SiebenDX’s “Wiimote extreme LED mod” was.

It’s not even just the Wiimotes, Nunchucks, and Classic Controllers modded with LED bling that make them worth checking out, but the video itself is entertaining. While “Through the Fire and the Flames” wouldn’t be our first choice at accompanying music (well, maybe it would be someone’s first choice), we enjoy how the LEDs coordinate with the music. It’s like watching some sort of LED-mod-meets-Guitar Hero hybrid.

Then again, maybe we’re just easily amused. Ooh, look at the pretty colors!

SeaLife Aquariums

March 25th, 2008 by Kabalyero

This week, I received a few group notices about SeaLife Aquariums and since I haven’t seen many aquariums in Second Life I decided to drop by and take a quick look at what an aquarium in Second Life would look like. Well, the place was not exactly how I pictured it because I thought the place would be like a virtual park with different aquariums on display, like a virtual version or even a virtual copy of Sea World but it was not like that all. What I found was a store that literally sells virtual aquariums. (more…)
